As a part of the Russian national team the Chechen athletes Turpal Tepkayev and Tamerlan Bashayev participated in it. Tepkayev acted in weight category of 73 kg where there were 43 participants. Turpal won the first duel against José Bra Basil from Brazil. Then two fights in a row struggled with the Armenian judoists. At first Tepkayev won against Tigran Onanyan, and a quarterfinal won against Avetik Grigoryan. In a semi-final Beka Sherazadashvili from Georgia was prostrate. In decisive, final fight Turpal Tepkayev won against Arso of Milich from Montenegro and became the owner of the Cup of Europe. Muscovite Tamerlan Bashayev, which month excellent won superiority of Russia, began performance on the first international start with a victory over Rinat Nazmitdinov from Uzbekistan. Then I won against Ali Akaya from Turkey, and in a semi-final I overcame Daviti Razmadze from Georgia. In Tamerlan's final duel  conceded to team mate Ruslan Shakhbazov and took the second place.
