The international Olympic committee made the decision to keep wrestling among the Olympic disciplines. At the 125th session the IOC which took place in the capital of Argentina Buenos Aires, wrestling won fight against two other applicants for the only vacant Olympic permit — baseball and squash

Let's remind that in February, 2013 heads of the Olympic movement recommended to exclude wrestling from the Igr-2020 program.  However the huge work which has been carried out by the new management of the International federation of integrated styles of wrestling, forced members the IOC to reconsider the views about the Olympic future of one of the most ancient and popular sports.

— In my opinion, there was a historical event! — I commented on the decision the IOC the Olympic champion of 1996 in Greco-Roman wrestling, the director of the Republican center of the Olympic preparation Yury Melnichenko. — Wrestling returned to the Olympic family, having thus undergone changes to the best. The new rules developed by experts, made wrestling spectacular. The University games in Kazan where all innovations were tested became confirmation to that. The surprising case occurred in free-style wrestling competitions. One of duels ended with the score 19:12. Even the lost carried out so many receptions! It raised at once a wrestling rating, as members noted the IOC.

— Baseball and squash had chances to bypass wrestling in the Olympic race?

— First all sports had equal chances. And everything depended on how representatives of these sports will prove in the preolympic race. As a result chances of wrestling of a victory increased every day because the whole world was captured by an action on rescue of this sport. The international federation of baseball of any innovations didn't offer, probably, having decided that them ruled and are so good. And as for squash, I, frankly speaking, am surprised that this sport in general got to the three of applicants. In my opinion, karatekas would be more worthy rivals.

— What do you think of the statement of the new president of FILA of Nenad Lalovich, what "the February decision of executive committee the IOC, the threatened future of the Olympic wrestling, turned back the benefit"?

— In a sense I agree with it. Certainly, all of us have an enormous stress. But, probably, in a different way Raphael Martinetti from a post of the president of FILA couldn't be moved away. Activity of the International federation of wrestling didn't arrange the IOC: there, in their opinion, urgently it was necessary to bring an order. And it gave the chance to members of FILA bureau to express, first, a vote of no confidence of Martinetti, and secondly, to carry out audit check. You don't represent as there everything was started... But in a month after known February events the new head of FILA Nenad Lalovich declared that on the Olympic Games-2016 female wrestling will be presented not to four, and in six weight categories, is equal as free and Greek-Roman. This question of equality of female and man's disciplines lifted the IOC for a long time.

— And if it didn't turn out to defend wrestling? What then?

— Wrestling would be comprehended by a fate of all not Olympic sports: gradual fading of popularity in these or those countries. It first of all closing of various Olympic schools. It is no secret that priority sports in all countries are just the Olympic disciplines, instead of mass. It would be the serious blow for such countries, as Iran, Russia, Mongolia, the USA, Japan and Kazakhstan where wrestling is included into the three of the most popular sports. It would be the tragedy for all system! Though strongly to dramatize such situation, probably, too isn't necessary. After all it was a question only of the Olympic Games-2020. And I am sure that members of FILA for these years would make all possible and impossible in order that the whole world understood: exception of wrestling of the Olympic program — the biggest mistake of the International Olympic committee.

— I am very glad for Russians: they with oligarchs were lucky. And we in Kazakhstan have businessmen who help sports, wrestling in particular?

— The most successful sports project in Kazakhstan — is mini-football club "Kayrat". Kayrat Orazbekov and Bekzat Sarmanov on own means formed team which isn't present equal in Europe. And the budget with which "Kayrat" won the UEFA Cup, is tens times less, than at prostrate to them "Barcelona" and Moscow "Dynamo". Efficiency of an investment of means in sports, as they say, is available. And I am admired personally by other history my friend Tasbolat Abguzhinov became which hero. Being the successful boxing coach, he was compelled to be engaged in business activity to put on feet of the son suffering from cerebral spastic infantile paralysis. Money for treatment in foreign clinic was necessary considerable and in any way comparable with a trainer's salary. But now his first-born — Alan — learned to go and talk normally. Moreover, he learned five foreign languages! And Tasbulat — the successful ekibastuzsky businessman.  And that the most pleasant, he never forgot and doesn't forget, from where left and what difficulties he had to face.  Having hardly earned the first money, it with friends opens in Ekibastuz the youth center of boxing and the children's rehabilitation center for disabled people.  Then will organize two international tournaments on the free-style wrestling one of which entered into FILA calendar!  Opening of the tennis center "Ekibastuz", reconstruction of the old thrown mountain-skiing base "Snowflake" — here Abguzhinov's last sports projects and K0.
