— And me what was? ! There was a wish to escape from all, to leave Moscow where far away … On parade when entered on the track of "Luzhniki", I hear to me in a back the minister of sports Sergey Pavlov speaks: "Give-give, Kolya! Well a flag you bear! Beautifully! The second gold medal you will benefit — to Lenin's award it is representable". I in case of these words slightly from a step didn't glork. I think: "Well why you, Sergey Pavlovich, under a hand and under a foot such speak to me? ."

— Certainly, I understood. I regretted that couldn't recoup for the Moscow Olympic Games. But it is short. Eventually, what it was possible to make? Not to hold a meeting on Red Square. To Los Angeles wouldn't allow to depart anyway …

Thus a month before Games, on tournament in Romania, I so wound the favourite of the audience Martinesku that that after fight didn't think anything.

— Nikolay Fedorovich, I can't but touch upon a subject of a possible exception of wrestling from the Olympic program. How you explain the current situation?

— When learned that the IOC can exclude wrestling from the program of Games, felt shock, even, I admit, began to cry. In 2002 the International federation of wrestling was headed by Swiss Martinetti. This is the person far from wrestling. Thus terribly not loving Russia. He in opened spoke about it: "I never loved you and I don't love" — in spite of the fact that it filled up with gifts during visits to Russia …

— Excuse that I interrupt. But how wrestlers allowed Martinetti's arrival to the power? !

— Well, you know … Often generally in many spheres of life in the power there are accidental people. Whether it is worth explaining, why so happens? Isn't present? . Well, then I will continue about Martinetti. Him irritated that Russia benefits in wrestling many medals on Olympic Games and the World Cups. And on its initiative made changes to rules — wrestling became uninteresting. Its outcome began to depend in many respects not on wrestlers, and on judges. The arbitrator will give warning, and all — chances of a victory aren't present. And so we finished badly that appeared on the verge of catastrophe. Directly hammered into bells: "Rescue wrestling!
