The ex-champion of Strikeforce and WEC in lightweight Gilbert Melendes (22-3) shared plans on an exit to a title and opinion that would change in a duel with Diego Sanchez (24-6) if it lasted five rounds instead of three.
About an exit to a title: "I will lobby the candidate on a post of the following applicant for a belt. It was one of the purposes in a duel with Sanchez. That is, of course, first of all I wanted to win fight and cared of career, but one of the purposes was good to be proved to be in this fight".
About a duel outcome with Sanchez in case it would last 5 rounds: "For the career I carried out many pyatiraundovy fights. I think, I could grow still.
Diego pressed me very aggressively in the third round and used all the arsenal so, I am sure that in late rounds could finish it. Five rounds? With pleasure. I would accept this battle and, probably, would finish off it. No problem. I am not afraid".
About the place in ratings: "I know that I am one of the most rigid guys in a division. I faced the most mad easily weight of UFC and was more rigid than it. I can win against any the weight and I feel that I am the uncrowned champion and the best easily weight in the world".
